New Knapp Designs

My Background:

I was born & raised in the Shell Lake area where my wife & I still reside.

My woodworking career started in the mid 70”s at the Shell Lake boat factory mill room. After the boat factory closed I went to work at Woodcraft Industries. Woodcraft was bought out by Bernhard Woodworks. Mr. Bernhard was a master German cabinetmaker & employed many fine European woodworkers at his plant in Northbrook Ill. Pete could see a need for more proficient craftsmen here at the Shell Lake plant so he started a apprenticeship program to train some of the Shell Lake employees in the finer points of cabinetry making. We were sent periodically to the NorthBrook plant to work along side of the accomplished German, Austrian & Italian craftsmen. The apprenticeship program took 4 years and over 4,000 hrs of on the job & classroom training.
Today, all of the experiences and values that have been given to me by the many good people that I have worked with, will be passed on to the customer in the craftsmanship, quality and detail of the work I produce.
